Make Extraordinary Scrap Quilts with Diane Harris
Begin with something easy that uses up fabrics you already have!
Disappearing Nine Patch. Use 2” squares or strips to make Nine Patches. Doesn’t matter where you put the lights and darks, you can have some of each kind. Cut the Nine Patches in half in both directions. (The center point is 2-1/2” from the raw edge.) Randomly sew the patches back together in rows; always keep the tiny patch in the same position, such as bottom left. Add a border and call it good.
- Bricks. Cut random fabrics into 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” bricks. Choose pairs of a light and a dark. Sew pairs together into blocks. Sew blocks together like this:!!
- Baby Windmills. Cut patches 1-1/2” x 2-1/2”. Takes four of one fabric and four of another fabric. Sew together in pairs. Arrange the pairs into a windmill. Make sure they all spin in the same direction!!!!
